Leave it to Mechanical Engineers & Politicians to turn a simple - TopicsExpress

Leave it to Mechanical Engineers & Politicians to turn a simple project into a CLUSTER F#$K! Do you know that to replace your Water Heater in Las Vegas it now requires: 1. A Permit 2. 18" Stand to keep fumes away from the ignition (bet this was because some ROCKET SCIENTIST stored his lawn mover gas next to the frigin thing). 3. Earthquake straps (Really?) 4. Sediment Trap (This is to collect sediment from burn off. Now this TRAP is just a T junction piece of pipe about 3" long & located 3" from the INTAKE along the SUPPLY LINE??? Excuse me but if the FIRE is going to travel that far BACK INTO THE SUPPLY LINE, HOUSE GOES BOOM, DUH!) There are a few other requirements based upon the location of the Water Heater within your home. These are as equally silly as the aforementioned. These requirements were a part of the new 2009 IRC (International Residential Code) adopted by the City of Las Vegas Building Department (and numerous other cities, counties, etc.) without Grandfather Rights to existing homes. It adds anywhere from $300 to $600 to the cost of installing a water heater & (get this) is generally NOT COVERED by homeowners warranties. I think we need to remind the PEOPLE (Politicians) that work for US that the KISS theory stands for KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID & NOT how many people you can SCREW without KISSING them!!!
