Lee Melsek in February 1982 at the rehearsal dinner when France - TopicsExpress

Lee Melsek in February 1982 at the rehearsal dinner when France Griggs and I got married in Tampa. The dinner was at Rough Riders Restaurant (now gone) in Ybor City. She was a reporter at the Tampa Tribune and were still going strong. I wonder how many journalist marriages last that long? Straightened my hillbilly ass out for sure. The other photo is of the guys in the wedding party. Otis White, who worked with me at Trend Publishing, is on the far left. Melsek is between Otis and myself. Charlie Reid was my best man and is on the right. Charlie died of prostate cancer years ago. He was the metro editor at TODAY in Cocoa, then became the Gannett News Service bureau chief in Tallahassee. We ended up together in Tampa for a few years. In my opinion, and this is meant as no slight to Joe Workman, Charlie Reid was the of the best journalists ever. He was an awesome editor and writer. Charlie never ate a light bulb like Workman, but he could wail out hymns after sipping some Scotch. And he couldnt jump though his leg, or whatever it was that Henry Baker used to do. Has anybody ever seen Henry pull that off?
