Lee: Virginia Lee Boyd Cherry, 90 of Lee, Florida, entered Heaven’s gates peacefully at home on June 19, 2014 surrounded by members of her loving family. Funeral services will be 11:00 Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Lee United Methodist Church, Lee, Florida, with burial at Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2014 from 5 – 7 PM at Beggs Funeral Home. Born March 20, 1924 in Fort Myers, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Horace Lee Boyd and Mary Leffers Boyd. She spent much of her childhood at her family’s dairy in Fort Myers and living in various towns throughout the state of Florida as her father filled appointments as a United Methodist Minister. She graduated from Madison High School, in Madison, Florida in 1942. She married the love of her life, Larrie James Cherry, at the Lee United Methodist Church, in Lee, Florida, on November 3, 1946. They were married for 50 years before Larrie’s death in 1997. Larrie and Virginia built the family owned and operated business, Cherry Farms, Incorporated, which is still in operation in Lee, Florida today. She was a very active member of the Lee United Methodist Church for over 70 years, teaching Sunday School, serving on many committees and winning souls for Jesus Christ. Virginia was a fun, loving, spirited mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was affectionately called “Memaw.” She is survived by three children, Jim (Linda) Cherry, of Tallahassee, Florida, Carson (Gladney) Cherry of Madison, Florida, and JoAnn (Greg) Whitfield of Lee, Florida; Seven loving grandchildren, Lee (Julia) Cherry, Marcy Cherry, Heather (Cody) Douglas, Jason (Heather) Whitfield, Matt (Jamie) Cherry, and Blaine Cherry; and seven adoring great grandchildren, Abby, Landen, Lynzee, Larrie McKay, Lainey, Riley and Adalyn. She leaves on sister, Sarah (Gene) Smith of Cairo, Georgia; and a host of extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Larrie James Cherry; one sister, Hellen Smith, and two brothers, Lloyd Boyd and Robert Boyd. Beggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements 850-973-2258.
