The custom of the Jews when you wanted a wife you went to the father and ask for her hand in marriage he may ask you to work for him or if you were a man of means some cattle when he agreed upon a number you would leave and go and prepare a dwelling place for you and your new bride. When youre done building your home it may be in the night you would immediately go for your bride. When you approach her fathers house in her bedroom window she would burn olive oil in a lamp so you could see she was waiting for you. But if that lamp had one out you know she really didnt love you or once you bad enough to keep her lamp burning.
