Left us on this day (Jan. 6) in 2007: country-rock steel guitar legend Sneaky Pete Kleinow (Alzheimers disease, age 73), best remembered as an original member (along with The Byrds Chris Hillman & Gram Parsons) of country rock pioneers, The Flying Burrito Brothers - a primordial influence on the Alt Country/Americana movement; he made arguably his greatest impact on that groups seminal 1969 debut, The Gilded Palace of Sin; known as the Jimi Hendrix of the pedal steel, Pete incorporated atypical tunings & liberal use of electronic innovations (including use of fuzzbox & tape echo) into his style; as a session player, he worked with the likes of Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Joe Cocker, Rita Coolidge, The Eagles, The Everly Brothers, George Harrison, The Steve Miller Band, Little Feat, Joni Mitchell, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder & Linda Ronstadt; he released four albums as a solo artist between 1974-2001 plus another three with the group Burrito Deluxe, which he formed in 2000; outside of music, Pete was also a noted special effects artist & stop motion animator for movies & TV...(this & more featured today at Roch Parisiens Rocon Communications music chat page...)
