Left us on this day (Oct. 14) in 2012: B.B. Cunningham, a legendary cult figure on the Memphis music scene, with a career that spanned some 50 years; he joined Jerry Lee Lewis’ band in 1963 on bass & keyboards, continuing to play with The Killer on-and-off for decades; in 1965, he co-founded The Hombres who scored a Top 15 hit with garage rock staple Let It All Hang Out (included on Lenny Kayes influential Nuggets compilation); in the early-’70s, B.B. moved to Los Angeles where he engineered recordings by the likes of Elton John, Lou Rawls & Billy Joel; he eventually settled back in Memphis where he opened his own recording studio…
