Leftists are claiming the “white privilege” of NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo saved him from being charged for the death of Eric Garner, a claim which conveniently ignores white police abuse victims Kelly Thomas and James Boyd. After a Staten Island grand jury chose not to indict the NYPD officer today for killing Garner with a chokehold during an altercation over untaxed cigarettes, numerous progressives and media pundits jumped on Twitter to complain about “white privilege” instead of focusing on police brutality which affects all Americans regardless of race. “Next time someone asks, white privilege is fatally choking a man on cameras for millions to witness — and getting away with it,” Sana Saeed tweeted. Other Twitter users shared similar sentiments. “People are still ignoring the fact that racism and white privilege exist,” @DelavannyJocruz tweeted. “If Eric Garner was white, officer Daniel Pantaleo would be in jail.” And @bourbonface called the case “another chapter in the book of white privilege.” These arguments clearly ignore the recent deaths of Kelly Thomas and James Boyd, two white victims of police brutality. Thomas, a homeless man diagnosed with schizophrenia, was beaten into a coma on a concrete sidewalk by three Fullerton, Cali., police officers in July 2011. He died of his substantial injuries, which included broken bones in his face and a collapsed thorax, five days later after his parents removed him from life support. Two of the officers went to trial for his death but a jury found them “not guilty” and the district attorney dropped the charges against the third officer. Boyd, also a homeless man, was shot in the back by two Albuquerque Police Department officers in March while he was camping in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains of New Mexico. But the cops didn’t stop there: after mortally wounding Boyd, they continued shooting him with bean bags for fun and even released a police dog to gnaw on his body. Neither of these cases, however, can be exploited to racially divide America, so the establishment, the mainstream media and their supporters will pretend they never happened while harping the dangers of so-called “white privilege” instead of police brutality in general.
