Legal firm and bank expansion agreement One of Cardiff’s long-established legal practices, Spicketts Battrick has expanded in the city and employed nine new solicitors and support staff. The firm’s growth coincided with neighbouring bank, Halifax, part of the Lloyds Banking Group, also requiring exra space. Alex Kalebic, Associate with Cooke & Arkwright’s Retail Agency, advised Spicketts Battrick in a deal which suited both parties’ urgent need for additional premises in this busy retail location. “Spicketts Battrick already owned its three-storey premises in Albany Road as well as the neighbouring property, which had become vacant,” said Mr Kalebic. “We made enquiries and discovered that Halifax needed to expand. “We structured a mutually beneficial deal in which the law firm would vacate its original offices on the ground floor, which we then let on its behalf to Halifax. The adjacent property and upper floors were renovated, providing Spicketts Battrick with new premises much larger than the firm previously occupied. It was a very favourable outcome for all parties.” Spicketts Battrick specialises in conveyancing, matrimonial, probate and personal injury. All areas of business have been boosted by a strong marketing push, while government schemes have boosted conveyancing. “We are extremely busy,” said Managing Partner, Richard Battrick. “We have captured a bigger slice of the market locally and the regeneration of the housing market, boosted by the Help to Buy schemes, has had a big impact. We are employing more people and quickly filling the extra space we have acquired, so already we are actively looking to expand further in the area.”
