Legal status of the organisation The organization is registered under society’s Act 1860 of Pakistan Penal Code since April 18, 2001 with # 761 as non-profit and non-political NGO and currently operational in three regions (Loralai/Quetta region, Bahawalpur/Yazman region, Lahore slums region) of Pakistan. History of the organisation During the nineties likeminded group of people from Quetta and Loralai districts, Balochistan became increasingly aware that the women and children of this region are deprived of their basic human rights due to cultural, religious, socio-economic and educational barriers. During his Master’s course in Development Studies (1998-2000) in Dublin, Ireland, Yousuf Jalal Gill (founder) shared his vision of improving the situation of women and children and promoting and protecting their rights in Pakistan to many of his friends in Ireland, North Wales and England who got together and formed a charity called Umeed Partnership UK registered (2001) in UK. After his studies Yousuf returned to Balochistan (Quetta, Loralai) and along with the Umeed group applied energies and skills to providing basic education, skills training and Human Rights awareness programs for women and children of all regions, cultures and faiths. Vision: The vision of UPP is to see educated, skilful and talented youth, improved equality between men and women, liberated men and women from land lords’ slavery, capacities built, Human Rights promoted among the oppressed masses. Mission: • To reach out to those who lack basic human needs with the aim of restoring dignity and respect irrespective of caste, creed or gender. • To promote basic Human Rights and Democratic Process among the oppressed and disadvantaged masses. • To provide opportunities to youth to improve their talents, abilities and leadership qualities. Goal: To promote and facilitate formal and informal (integral development) education at all levels. Our Focal Sectors include: Human Rights: • Human Rights and Democratic Education • Women Empowerment & Eliminating Gender Disparities • Capacity Enhancement of women groups and Civil Society Organizations • Research and Documentation Development: • Promotion of entrepreneur and development of small business skills • Formal and Non-formal Education • Socio-Economic Empowerment of Poor Masses • Assisting women in distress through free legal aid
