Legendary civil rights activist and world renowned boxer Rubin Hurricane Carter passed away yesterday in his sleep. While wrongfully imprisoned for 19 years, Carter worked tirelessly to prove his innocence and support others fighting for their freedom. Carter openly condemned the racism and dehumanization of the U.S. prison system, and was finally freed in 1985 after a federal judge ruled that prosecutors had based their entire case on racial prejudice.
