Legislative Update: Testimony opposing H.2119 - An Act relative to the Department of Fire Services Commission: Testimony of the Massachusetts Call/Volunteer Firefighters Association (MCVFA) In opposition of H.2119 An Act relative to the Department of Fire Services Commission To the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security November 20, 2013 My name is Kevin Connolly, a volunteer firefighter from Northfield and Co-Chairman of the MCVFA Legislative Committee. I would like to thank the Committee for allowing the MCVFA to present testimony here today. The Massachusetts Call/Volunteer Firefighters’ Association (MCVFA) asks that the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security take no action with regard to House Bill 2119, An Act relative to the Department of Fire Services Commission. During the last session, the legislature added representation for the volunteer fire service to the Commission and this would undo it for no valid reason. If the Joint Committee decides to alter the makeup of the Commission, they should not remove the volunteer representatives. It should remain as is with the fire chief representatives as well as one member of PFFM and one member from the MCVFA since the split in the state is about 55% to 45%. The Massachusetts Call Volunteer Firefighters’ Association hopes that it can count on your support to take no action on this legislation.
