Leia I had to review these videos over the weekend and I could - TopicsExpress

Leia I had to review these videos over the weekend and I could hear your conversations with Gwendwyn (from 0:25 on) regarding how to ring tilt normally. I will have to respectfully disagree with Gwen because in period RING spearing is shown and described in all manners and a rider can ring tilt from either side of their horse. There is no normal at the ring tilt. It is a targeting exercise, not a jousting exercise and a rider needed to be adept at spearing off both sides (and varying heights). However, in this instance the finals challenge was set up with 2 challenges in lanes and crossing over was not indicated. I think Sir Connor simply did not hear this when the rules of engagement were announced. In the previous video, Henrik said he would do as Connor did and ride the ring down across his horse - but Henrik also did not sit in on the rules of engagement for the final contestants (and I dont think Gwen did either?). If this was tilting at a QUINTAIN... then yes there is *traditionally* one way to do it. And that way is to lower the lance across the horses neck to strike the quintain. So you are correct here Leia. As the outgoing Champion, your crew set up the course to be run a certain way and that is how the competitors were instructed to run it. We should be able to show some adaptability in ring spearing. I also prefer to ring spear across my horse, but we should be able to spear a ring from both sides of our horse.
