Lemme talk for a second about a band called teethforteeth. The south Jersey music scene has been sort of bland for the last decade and seldom does a band remotely notable come to the forefront. Its kind of sad, but in a way it does make the bands that do stand out that much better. teethforteeth is one of those bands. They come from Hammonton which is a few miles west of Atlantic City, and theyre rooted in a scene that is so rich and vibrant with enthusiastic participators that it feels like youre in a different place at a different time, like you stepped into a photograph from a long time ago but you were never absent. teethforteeth span a very unique genre that few bands have the resources to explore, and its cool because since more and more bands are trying out the post-hardcore/screamo genre, less and less are succeeding. It could be that its been done a thousand times. But the important thing is, teethforteeth does it right. They used to be called Elliot Gray before they debuted I Felt Like Fire in 2012. With that EP came a bunch of amazing songs like Hold Out Your Hand, Katherine Has a Heavy Heart, Its Why You Havent Put On Your Jacket, and others. What this band does right is they write from experience, and the heart. The reason I commend this band so much is because I can relate a little too well to the music they write, and its not because I force myself to, but its because I experience too much of the same. Something real happens when you find a band that can speak your own thoughts back to you. In 2013 they released another 2-track EP entitled My Head Was Stick in the Clouds, Just 10 Feet Up Off of the Ground, and the two tracks being Anything and Anyone. Ive listened through these songs dozens of times and every time is like listening to it for the first time. Their live performances reflect their passion in their music. They dont purposefully try too hard to put on flashy fake performances - its just 5 guys sharing their music with the world, as it should be. You can feel their energy, and its reflected by the audience tenfold. The locals need more support than those who tour year-round. Without us, bands wouldnt flourish, no CDs would sell, and nobody would succeed. Fresh ears are what make or break bands. teethforteeth deserve it very much, because when music of this quality is written - especially done DIY in their case, its a shame for it to go unheard. Give them a Like and check them out on Bandcamp. teethforteeth.bandcamp/
