Lemmi make it clear for those who may be slow in understanding what Boranas r agitating for: BORANS demand peace and I mean peace in its real sense, as peace is not only the absence of conflict but also the presence of social justice for all. 2.Secondly and most important , Boranas as the indigenous Kenyan majority in Marsabit County are demanding equal participation in the management and governance of Marsabit County. 3.Equal employment opportunities be availed to all the eligible and suitable persons regardless of ethnic background, Religious and political affiliation- Open positions must be advertised in the National newspapers and subjected to competitive bidding. Our Civil service and the management of Marsabit County must reflect our ethnic diversity. Government contracts, Tenders be subjected to competitive bidding and not used to award political associates and cronies. 4. The County leadership team led by Gov. UKUR YATTANI must embrace the imperatives of Transparency and accountability to the people of Marsabit. 5. There must be perceivable evidence of unbiased and servant leadership in the delivery of their mandates AND the Governor-backed resettlement of foreign pastoralists from the neighboring country on the borana grazing territories must stop for peace to prevail-UKUR must know there are other legitimate and democratic ways of building the requisite numbers to sustain himself in power. The list of demands and expected standard operating procedures are long and can be added by any visionary for the leadership and the good people/ youth/Women of Marsabit County to see and demand or action. Some members of REGABU ALLIANCE, a short-term loose association cobbled together to defeat the borana vote-power and lock them out of the county leadership, may be enjoying direct individual benefits in terms of employment and contracts while their wider community is suffering a great deal of deprivation in silence and have vowed never to align themselves with the economic immigrants to undermine their indigenous brotherhood and citizenry with the larger and democratic borana community. Economic progress and unity cannot take place in Marsabit County in the absence of these fundamental tenets of good governance; neither can the people dare come together to discuss the need for peaceful co-existence in the absence of guaranteed security and political good will. The Elected and the appointed County leadership team must swallow their pride and rise above their tribal chauvinism to facilitate reconciliation and healing process in Marsabit County. For me I want nothing short of lasting peace and social justice for all. I should not be misunderstood ! Many borana professionals and elites including the wider community are alive to the fact that we failed to capture the gubernatorial seat due to our lack of unity of purpose but we have since moved on to ensure effective and efficient checks and balances for the good of our people. Truly, there are many lessons out there but boranas will avoid similar mistakes in the future. Horaa bullaa dhebana Gositi ballessaa, Tokkumma jabesa.
