Lent begins today - the day that people give something up for six - TopicsExpress

Lent begins today - the day that people give something up for six weeks. Usually, its the same as New Years resolutions - lasts maybe two or three weeks if that. Its usually something like giving up smoking (a very good thing), or chocolate, or tv (that would be a tough one). I think giving up swearing would be wonderful and might break the habit. Overall, I feel adding things would be better than giving up. Every day, do something for someone - write a letter or call a friend, take a meal to an elderly person or new Mom, be sure to commend and thank a server, the bag person, the cashier - all of the folks who help us in our daily life. Smile more, dont you enjoy it when a stranger smiles at you in the supermarket, or just passing on the street? I do. So many really small gestures that mean a lot and take very little effort. So thats my goal for Lent, and hopefully a lot longer than six weeks. Who knows, it may even become a habit.
