Lent for me started at Emmanuel Episcopal in Athens, GA as a youth. I would give up candy or cokes and fail miserably. These days, I still practice a bit of deprivation in an effort to remember Jesuss sacrifice and maybe lose a pound. My give-ups are sorta easy... fried food, sweets, liquor and unaccompanied bread. And I only drink coffee, water and white wine. The real debate for me is how you schedule what Lent is on the calendar. By my count, if you go all the way to Easter you can sin on Sundays and still get in 40 days and 40 nights.... Otherwise, you can get back to your game on Palm Sunday when Jesus came in from the wilderness.... I usually go with the former.
