Lent gratitude photo 24 Happy Mothers Day! Family Album 1989 Leafing through old photo albums one weekend at home I cant help but reach over to pick up the phone The images remind me of so many times The colours still bright, neon’s pink, orange limes I ask you to come over, reminisce and to share Over days filled with love, laughs and permed mullet hair Look! Here’s our first car, a silver Cavalier I remembered the registration - isn’t that weird? Oh! There’s the new bedrooms, all painted and clean When I finally accepted I must be a teen Gone candlewick blankets, now duvets, covers with poppers And me standing proud in rollerboots with red stoppers We laugh at us standing at the sign at Lands End Me, Mum and Dad and a Bermuda short clad friend And remember when the patio was finally laid? For suppers of prawns, steak and trifle homemade Then the house became ours, cheers Mrs Thatcher! Mrs Jones’d bought hers and we simply must match her New suites for the bathroom and kitchen, new pantry Electric fan cooker, green corner bath - how swanky! The terrified new cat, she was a Persian you know Furred feet buried deep in now long melted snow And Christmas 89 - wasn’t that funny? that’s you and me dancing to the shameful Jive Bunny I flick through the photos with mixed laughter and tears Has Dad really been gone a whole 15 years? It seems another life, but our lives didn’t end Linked together forever, my Mum and my friend
