Less is more It is a universal custom to pray for more wealth, more living space, more belongings, more fame and just more of everything in general. Such a prayer reveals our thinking - more is better. We have been handed down this thinking, and we accept it without questioning it. My experience is that less is more. Here are some thoughts. Less belongings result in fewer problems. There is less to lose, less to clean and less to keep track of. Having less things leads to less consumption of water and electricity. By using fewer resources you become a responsible citizen of the world and a custodian of mother earth. Less things in the house translates into more space. It is much easier to be organized if you have fewer possessions. If you have lots of things, you are constantly looking for this-and-that. If you have less, you will lose less time searching for things. As a student I would clean up my surroundings before sitting down to study. Many experience a sense of calm and greater ability to concentrate when there is less clutter around. You become creative with the stuff you already have and save money which you can then give to charity. Both are sure to bring you immense joy and satisfaction.
