Less than 30 days now until the Grand Daddy of all shows -- the North American Vintage Decoy and Sporting Collectibles Show in St. Charles, IL, April 22-26. Among the many activities planned throughout Show week, on Saturday morning (April 26), many talented contemporary carvers will be on hand to demonstrate how they create these masterpieces live for all to see. It is easy to feel their passion as pieces of wood are transformed into wonderful folk art that speaks to the heritage of the region and carver -- a heritage that is uniquely American and has become a part of the story of our country. As a special treat this year, Virginia resident Cameron McIntyre, one of the country’s most admired decoy makers and artists, will display a broad range of his work including duck and shorebird decoys, as well as sporting art and landscape paintings. His decoys are among today’s most highly sought after contemporary works and display magnificent sculptural form created exclusively with hand tools in the manner of the great decoy makers of the past. See some of his fantastic work here. With the weather finally showing some signs of easing up in the Midwest, this is shaping up to be a terrific Show. Hope to see you all there!
