Lesson of the day: When your kids are having a tantrum, be slow to react, perhaps the upsetness has little to do with being bratty but rather a deeper problem. Today Emily had a meltdown when she got home from school. I sent her to her room to calm down and relax. By chance I happen to also assign her a task; she was to write down her feelings and an apology for her behaviour. After 5 minutes, down came Emily, with a remorseful look and something was written but later scratched out. I gently asked her what she had written down and she told me that she had gotten in trouble at school today because she had been distracted with friends. - Emily was incredibly upset (she has never gotten in trouble in school) so I sat her in my lap and I shared of times that I myself had also gotten in trouble at school and the importance of paying attention. So, the moral of the story, if your kid is acting up, learn to be patient and listen to their heart, maybe they are trying to communicate something to you.
