Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (Romans 13:1) The story of Peter Mutharika in the Malawi politics is full of agony. When the late Bingu died in 2012, many people gave DPP zero chances of coming back to power. The previous government tried to do everything to erase the name “DPP” in people’s minds. They tried to associate DPP with only negatives and completely forgot the other blue side the party had. The government created fake charges against the learned law professor, he was arrested alongside his top party officials. Malawians who loved him spent their nights at the police cell where he was residing. They sang choruses and prayed for this man to come out of the jail. The man was released on bail, and he started his political campaigns as usual. Few months before election, there were many false stories created by the government to frustrate Malawians that this man will not stand for presidency in the country. Some top credible lawyers were paid by the government to deceive the masses that Peter Mutharika cannot stand for presidency in Malawi. Before it was too late, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) allowed him to stand for presidency since he is a citizen of Malawi. The choice of commissioners at the electoral commission was another saga. All other parties fielded their candidates at the commission. To the surprise of many, DPP was refused to submit even a single commissioner. With the help from other bodies like Public Affairs Committee (PAC) only one commissioner representing DPP was allowed and was none other than Bishop Dr Benard Malango. Voter registration process itself was also a mess for Mutharika. When registration started , mutharika’s stronghold experienced the most late registration. No staff, delayed processes and many others but registration went on. When voter verification commenced, more problems were encountered in mutharikas stronghold than anyone else .They ended up suspending them, on 20th may a similar pattern was experienced. Delayed ballots, and all sorts of things designed to frustrate mutharikas voting base. Despite all that, Mutharika today has emerged a winner in this year’s presidential elections. Although I did not vote for him (for my personal reasons), every leader comes from God and Mutharika is God given leader. I strongly believe in the principles of his blue camp since I was inspired by Bingu. If we can support him Malawi will be a better place to be. DPP woyeeeee, congrats to his boys who tried everything to bring votes to Mutharika. ONE MALAWI ONE NATION
