Let me elaborate on the below photo I posted. I dont hate Kanye West. I think he is a very talented producer. As a rapper well.... hes just OK. I think the two statement here reflect the difference between being talented and being a genius. Jimi Hendrix along with John Coltrane are the only two people that I consider geniuses in any art form. It wasnt that both of them were humble. It was that both of them of them were never satisfied and that constantly strove to push boundaries. I think that what Jimi Hendrix is saying that being called a genius was distracting to him because compliments, if taken seriously, tend to breed complacency. Both Jimi and John pushed their respected musical genres to the utmost limits and went to the Beyond the Beyond. Talent is gift. Genius is a quest.... a quest with a very heavy price.
