Let me introduce myself, My name is Rodney John Grantham Jr., I was born January 27,1966 in Kenner, La. to Rodney(Johnny) and Shirley Hamilton Grantham. I have a younger brother, Darin, who now resides in Tennessee, and pastors a church and a younger sister that lives in Reno, Nv. My maternal grandparents were lifelong residents of Mt Fair, La. (near Mittie) and my grandfather was a veteran of World War II. My paternal grandmother was from Lydia, La. We lived in Westlake on Garden Dr. during the first eight years of my life and I attended Westwood Elementary. This is where I was first introduced to this great town. My father was a construction worker by trade and a preacher, which he just recently retired from. Because of this we moved quite often during my childhood and teenage years. We lived in New Iberia, La., as well as Larose, La. and Kaplan, La. where my father pastored churches in both towns and I received my diploma from Kaplan High School in 1986. We then moved to Little Rock, Ark. where I was a maintenance contractor at an apartment complex. After that we moved to Lebanon, Tn. where I attended Alliance Tractor Trailer School and became a truck driver for volunteer express. My family returned to Westlake in 1989, where soon after I joined them. I drove a dump truck for Gene Kile when I first returned and then was employed for seven years at Dixie Supply/RSC as a mechanic and was promoted to driving a tractor trailer. During this time I volunteered at Westlake Fire Department where I received volunteer of the year. After I was let go from RSC I became a full time employee with Ward One Fire Department in Moss Bluff and remained there for seven years. During this time I completed the LSU Firefighter I and II courses and attended school for Basic EMT. On my off days I worked for Med Express ambulance service and also in August 2004 became a part time Police Officer for the Westlake Police Dept. After much deliberation and prayer I decided it was time for a career change and in March 2005 became a full time Westlake Police Officer. I graduated the Police Academy in November of that same year. I was promoted to Sergeant in 2009 and assigned to the motorcycle where I remained until September 2013 when I was then promoted to detective which is the position I still hold today. Over the ten years that I have served the Westlake community Ive obtained numerous certifications which include Taser instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Crime Scene Reconstruction, FBI Instructor Development, North Western Motorcycle Course, and Basic Swat along with many others. I never pass up the opportunity to learn something new. Shortly after returning to Westlake in 1989, I met my now wife of 24 years, Alisa Hansbrough, a lifelong resident of Westlake and stay at home mom. We were married in July of 1990 and in May of 1991 became the parents of our first daughter Brittany Grantham King. Six years later in June of 1997 our second daughter, Shelby was born. Brittany graduated from Westlake High and McNeese University and is now a high school English teacher. She has been married for two years to Weston King and they reside in Westlake. Shelby will graduate from Westlake High in May, where she is involved in numerous clubs and plays volleyball and softball. We have lived on Augusta St. for 20 years in two different houses, thirteen years in our current home. We attend a local Christian Church and are very active at Westlake High School as well as in the community. In our free time we enjoy outdoor activities such as the beach, fishing, boating, camping, and biking. I am a committed family man and spend almost all of my free time with them. God, Family, Work has always been my top priorities. I would like to be your next Police Chief; I believe it is time for change and that I can make that happen. First and foremost is making the department more community friendly and more interactive with the public and to raise awareness of what the officers and dept. does on a daily basis. We can do this by utilizing social media as well as local media and opening the lines of communication between the police department and citizens including the elderly, youth and business owners. By doing this we can keep you as citizens better educated on how to keep yourself and your property safe. I would like to implement some new programs so that the community can get to know the officers as well as the chief. I would also like to work on getting more reserve officers so that we can have a stronger police presence in the city at all times and more training for full time officers so that they will be prepared for any situation that arises. I believe that a great working environment creates high morale which is essential when dealing with the public. As a leader in this community I believe it is extremely important to be out amongst the citizens and to be active in the community and community events. If given this opportunity I will work hard to keep your kids, streets, and property safe and the police department a place to be proud of.
