Let me introduce you to Gyemk ~Loop (Moonstone) Womens Big Drum. She has been a Facebook staple for several weeks, as physical threats were levied against me, her keeper, and to two other women if we showed up at the University of Waterloo powwow in southern Ontario (September 27, 2014). The threats have been reported to police. The drum represents the universal heartbeat of Noo Halidzoks (Mother Earth) - the universal mother to us all. All drums, therefore, regardless of size are female and human. The first sound that was heard in the world was her heartbeat. The first sound a baby hears in the womb is the heartbeat of its mother. It is very sad that some men have lost their hearing and continue to try to deny a womans right to play a female relative. It is a fact, that womens big drum groups are all over Turtle Island, playing at powwows, and other public events and having a fabulous time doing it. It is NOW THE NORM, NOT THE EXCEPTION. Sisters, nothing happens to us without purpose. What we do because of it, what we do about it, is the key to who and what we are. The power of accurate First Nations teachings springs from the Four Elements and our Hearts. Their associated rituals are often best served with tools, and Moonstone Big Drum is one of those glorious tools. Stand strong, sisters, this week will tell the tale.
