Let me make one thing clear; I don’t understand politics. They - TopicsExpress

Let me make one thing clear; I don’t understand politics. They talk about “deficits” and “the economy” and “interest rates” and loads of other things that I know nothing about. Maybe I will once I’m older and have a bit more life experience, but when my Dad’s yelling at debates on TV, I don’t have a clue what he’s so annoyed about. A bunch of toffs fighting like ten year olds big whoopy doo. And what is the deal with Johann Lamont? Why is she so astonished all the time? A lot of my friends are no voters. I don’t really know why- and when I ask them, they don’t really seem to know why either. It’s all very confusing to me. Im only 15, so I dont have a vote, however Im encouraging everyone else to vote #yesbecause I read the white paper in my school library one day for a dare when I was bored (no idea why my pal dared me, but I’m glad he did). I expected to see loads of big words, but it didn’t – it’s actually really easy to understand – and answered a lot of my questions… something the No campaign never bothered to do. Questions like will independence mean I have enough money to survive unlike my parents before me? They go without food to make sure I get three meals a day. They don’t think I know but I do. And I know that it’s getting worse. I know that prices are increasing all the time when wages aren’t. I know what poverty feels like and how much it affects a family. I believe when the YES campaign said that they will make sure families like mine get enough money to survive. With an increase in minimum wage so people can actually live off of what they get and not have to resort to begging at foodbanks just to make sure their children have a warm dinner. With a YES vote, it is my understanding that free education is guaranteed. This is good news for me since I’m still at school and the next logical step is higher education. Like I already said, the poverty in this country is not a statistic. Me, and thousands of people like me live in poverty every day and the only way to get ourselves out is through a good education. I like the system we have now – if you’re able to learn, you’re allowed to… because there’s no way I could afford to pay thousands of pounds every year. It should remain on your ability to learn and not your ability to pay. Scotland is one of the most gorgeous countries in the world – I like the YES campaign’s idea to focus on renewable energy sources like wind farms and wave power -it protects our environment and cuts down on pollution. That kills two birds with one stone; stops children getting asthma and helps protect my pals the squirrels – and the other animals too I guess. But mainly the squirrels. I also heard a rumour that I might be forced to do National service – I don’t want to join the armed forces, I’m not nearly brave enough and I don’t like guns. I want to have the choice about what I want to do with my life. I want to finish school, go to college or uni then get a job doing what I want to do. None of this being forced to fight malarkey. With a YES vote, national service will never be introduced up here – all good news to me! All I ever hear about on TV is how many people have died in the latest conflict. Too many boys and girls not much older than me losing their lives for no reason. I want a peaceful world. I want Trident gone. Without Trident here, other countries won’t have any reason to attack us and we can enjoy being a pillar of peace and show the rest of the world how to behave. So come on guys, vote yes. Give me the vote I dont have. #youyesyet #teenindyref ~ Feorag.
