Let me recommend a film to you, if you have not seen it. Terence - TopicsExpress

Let me recommend a film to you, if you have not seen it. Terence Malick’s Tree of Life (2011) is that film. (He’s an Episcopalian, by the way. His wife is a seminary graduate of Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest, I read somewhere.) To bring my RLST 201 course, Intro to Religious Studies, to an end, we watch the film. It deals with all the topics we have covered the entire semester: notions of sacred power, ritual, sacred space, creation, theodicy, future expectation, sacred texts, etc. I would say for those who struggle with the role of religion in life in post-modernity, this film brings the issue front and center in an interesting and artful way. Critics did not know how to deal with the expansive, intellectual and philosophical dimensions of this larger-than-life film. You can probably even watch it from Amazon! It is a very deep and ponderous film that raises lots of questions. Thank you, Dr. Sarah Morice Brubaker of Phillips Theological Seminary for introducing me to the film. https://youtube/watch?v=WXRYA1dxP_0
