“Let me share another helpful principle called the 50/20 - TopicsExpress

“Let me share another helpful principle called the 50/20 principle. It is certainly not original with me, but it is helpful. It is based on the life of Joseph, in Genesis 50:20. His brothers had sold him down the river, left him for dead, and had even told his father he was dead. They said, ‘Look at the blood.’ And Jacob buried the boy in his mind. But Joseph was not dead and he went on to become prime minister of all of Egypt. His brothers came later begging for food. “Surely Joseph had to be thinking, ‘Oh, what a chance to get even.’ But did Joseph do it? No, he wept in their presence. And when they got it all out on the table, Joseph said, ‘Look guys, you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.’ That is the 50/20 principle from Genesis 50/20. ‘Someone may mean it unto you for evil. But let me say, unless you can see beyond that someone, you are going to retaliate and return evil for evil. God meant it unto you for good. God is using that person to mold you and form you and shape you into a person you otherwise would never become. That is 50/20 vision. We don’t need 20/20 vision when dealing with people. We need to be far-sighted. We need 50/20 vision.” Anderson, David R. (2013-07-08). Triumph Through Trials: The Epistle of James (Kindle Locations 3477-3486). Grace Theology Press. Kindle Edition.
