Let me show you how to look behind what is reported on the news: Yesterday County Commissioner Justin Ford voted with the Republicans to give the suburban cities a tax break rather than forcing them to carry the burden of breaking away from the Shelby County School system. So now they get four years without having to pay more taxes and they get the new school system, while Memphians are struggling to keep our city government afloat. But wait..... Justin Ford is no longer being investigated for living outside his district. Likewise, he received the endorsement and campaign funding from the Chamber of Commerce without even showing up for the screening. Now you do not have to have a degree in Political Science in order to see what is going on. His vote was absolutely key to forcing the suburbs to carry their own financial burden. The money that will be used to offset their debts could have gone to a summer youth employment program, more education programs at our libraries, or it might have been granted to the City of Memphis as a means of off setting the pension problem. You figure it out for yourself.
