Let me take out a moment from the nasty cacophony of this midterm - TopicsExpress

Let me take out a moment from the nasty cacophony of this midterm election to remember a man who I knew from my days in Massachusetts, who just died. Tom Magliozzi -- one half of the duo who called themselves Click & Clack, the Tappet Brothers on their National Public Radio show, Car Talk -- was as kind and good natured in person as he was on the air. In an age of broadcast “personalities” with egos larger than politicians, Tom was never affected by the celebrity he achieved. At a time when humor is too often snide and cynical, Tom and his brother Ray made us laugh through their own uproarious delight at the cornball jokes and absurd situations they related, and the obvious love they shared for one another. And in an era when many look down on people who do manual labor, Tom dignified the art of looking under the hood and thinking out of the box. He was, in all these respects, an antidote to the selfish mean-spiritedness that has taken over too much of our society. I shall miss him.
