Let me tell you a true true story about an incident that happened - TopicsExpress

Let me tell you a true true story about an incident that happened last Saturday in Pendleton. I was at home when my cell phone rang and a number which I didnt reconize came up. Of course I answered it becaue it is not unusual for me to get calls from folks I have never talked to before. This guy was calling me on his cell phone and was parked out at our American Legion Post here in Pendleton. He told me that he got my phone number from Nancy Westbrook who operates the Golden Comb Beauty Shop which is located on the end of our building. Seems he left Interstate 85 near Anderson and came up this way searching for an American Legion Post seeking help. He told me that he was a member of The Sons Of The American Legion and his 80 year old Mom was a life member of Post 884 in Kentucky. I asked him how I could help him. He told me that he, his brother-in-law and sister had been down to Florida to a funeral and had car trouble which took all the money they had to pay for having it repaired. I asked if he and his Mom had membership cards to show that they were members of the Legion organizations that they claimed to be members of. He assured me did. Then I told him that I would come over to the post building to speak with him. He told me that his Mom wa a diabetic and had had nothing to eat for a while and was getting weaker by the moment. Well, I thought these people were most likely on the up and up so I told him to ask Nancy to tell them how to get to Dyars Diner and I in the meantime would call out to the diner and make arrangements to get themdinner. Icalled the diner and spoke with Becky Dyar. I told her the story and asked her to feed each of them a dinner and eith I or the Poast 113 would pay them for the meals. She said she would see that they got plenty to eat. I told the guy to call me back when he finished the dinner and tht I would meet him at the post building to see what else we might be able to help him with. In the meantime, I called our finance officer (Jim Brock) and Ist Vice Commander (James Haney) to tell them what was going on and to ask them their opinion on the deal. If we found them worthy, I wanted Brock to bring a check and and we would help them out a little. Brock couldnt come to the building at the time because he was baking cakes for some sick folks. I told James that since Brock couldnt come with a small check for the guy that I would just give him a little donation. James told me that he would give me half of whatever I gave the man. I took a 100 dollar bill out of my emergency cash which I had hid back for hard times and awaited his call telling me that they were finished with the dinner and headed back to the post building. Wasnt long until I was on my way to the post building. I met with the folks and spoke with all four and his Mom got out to speak with me. They offered for me to look at their membership cards, but I didnt think it necessary to doubt they werent what they were supposed to be. I believed their story and thought they deserved some help. I asked the guy mow much money it would take for them to make it on home. He said he didnt really know. I asked him if 100 hundred dollars would be enough. He said he thought that ought to get it. I gave him the money and invited them into our building and gave the several soft drinks and some bottled water, The guy said he would send me the money back when he got his paycheck in a couple of weeks. I gave him my address and told him that if he got it to do that and if he didnt not to worry about it. The Mom said it wouild be returned. I told them I was glad to help because that was what we are supposed to do in situations like that. We said our goodbys and went on our different ways. Now listen to this. Sunday, I drove my truck and borrowed trailer down to Anderson to pull the lady members of our auxiliary in the Veterans Parade. As I got to the parking area, I had to park longways to get the truck out of the street and I got out to put some signs on the truck doors. I noticed a little breeze blowing and watched a a little whirlwind circling around blowing dry brown leaves around my feet. I thought it strange as I watched the little whirlwind. As I watched the leaves circling round and round blowing the little leaves on my shoes I saw two green bills in the leaves. I hurriedly stepped on the two green bills and reached down to pick them up. There was a 100 dollar bill and a twenty in my hand. No one was around the area but me. Well, I thought, the LORD has paid me back and has given me 20 dollars extra for helping the folks out yesterday. Then, this morning when I went out to Dayers to pay them for the meals they fed the 4 people, my good friend told me that he had already taken care of the tab. I told him that they were supposed to pay me back and if they did I would pay him anyway. He said no. Well folks, that goes to prove that you just cant out give the Lord. This is a true story. If the folks do pay me back, Ill be that much more ahead. If you help fhose in need, you will get a blessing. I told you this to tell you a good story. Not to tell you anything else. The Dyars are just good folks. I know that to be true because Earle is a good friend of mine and I know some things he has done for others. Have a great day folks. I have helped several people that promised to pay me back and never did. One was a cousin and she called me her Guardian Angel and swore she and her husband would pay me back but never did. She never speaks to me now when she sees me. However, the Lord has paid me back several times.
