Let me tell you about my Dad. He was 56. He loved to sing and whistle and dance. He was known around Florida States Economics Dept as the happy go lucky professor who despised being called Dr. Gapinski. My name is Jim. Id prefer you call me that. He loved Perry Mason and gin and tonics. Even though he was brilliant and accomplished he had a way of never making anyone feel anything less than amazing. He was on the Nobel Peace Prize Selection Committee and was an economic advisor for two Presidents. He was a liberal. Hed decorate the back of our house every Christmas because the special needs child that lived behind us needed Christmas cheer more than most. He and I would bond over late nights watching our beloved Atlanta Braves. He took me to my first hockey game in Washington DC for my 6th birthday. Hed burn the absolute shit out of chicken wings and say everything tastes better well done. He adored and respected women like no man Ive ever met. He authored countless books, and was an adjunct professor at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, but was not too sophisticated for a pull my finger fart joke. He was my softball coach and my math tutor. He was my biggest fan and my mentor in life. He was so good looking, my friends would all swoon. He loved Bob Dylan, Def Leppard, and rock and roll. He took me to my first Police concert when I was 13. I still cry when I hear Every Breath You Take. He was my Dad. But you can just call him Jim Happy Heaven Day. 11/20/2000.
