Let me try this without a parade of Facebook thunder. From my memory in my country, Black America marched rigorously about its representation at the POLLS in the 60’s…and America fixed that, yes ? Then…in the 70’s, Black opportunities in the ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY, Movies, TV, Commercials, was next in the spotlight. ( You can turn on your TV anytime of day and see how we took care of that ). In the 80’s & 90’s African American voices raised en mass about their minority presence in our Universities and in the Workplace and, for those who recall, those Affirmative Action decades were all about filling that gap. Now…what is it we’re seeing across the land as we speak ? A national cry against biased Black treatment by Law Enforcement ( did I get that right ?) And is there anyone on either side of the street who truly believes that America won’t hear those voices and go to work ? ( Is everybody getting my drift here ?) And if that assurance makes sense and holds up, would anybody shout me down for standing full up and tipping my hat to an imperfect America with the built-in heart and soul to repeatedly step up to the dusty plate and make right what is wrong ?? The truth ? I have a few top drawer friends of mine who previewed this piece and…well…stopped short of “disagreeing” with my one man Flag parade…but emphatically countered with the reminder that my description of America “hearing the marches” and instantly leaping into the “fix-it” mode was great Hallmark-Disney-John Wayne poetry, but not at all true…that, rather, alotta years of sweat & pain & nobody listening before Wayne and the US Calvary rode in for a look-see. Funny…I hear my friends…and I read my piece again…and BOTH of us sound right. Can that be ?? Talk to me. - Marty Ingels
