According to Newsbusters‘ Jeffrey Meyer: NBC and ABC couldn’t hold back their excitement during their Sunday morning broadcasts. The two networks both offered full reports as they cheered on the First Lady at the “country’s most exclusive dance party.” Meyer pointed out: Such gushing coverage of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday is in stark contrast to the brief acknowledgment of then First Lady Laura Bush’s 60th birthday celebration right before the 2006 elections. Such an event gives the liberal media yet another excuse to talk about anything other than the troubles plaguing President Obama, and instead cheerlead for an invite to Mrs. Obama’s next birthday celebration. The first lady’s “Snacks & Sips & Dancing & Dessert” party created a buzz over invitations that advised guests to “eat before you come,” but no other details were shared before the event. Numerous luminaries were seen arriving at the White House for the big bash, including Stevie Wonder, Samuel L. Jackson, Magic Johnson and Oprah Winfrey’s BFF, Gayle King, according to NBC’s “Today.” President Obama was in charge of the party planning, but he kept the details very quiet. “Not even the NSA knows that,” he told People magazine last week, according to NBC, revealing only, “It’s going to be a rolling birthday weekend.” He tweeted this to his wife Friday: President Obama served as master of ceremonies for the evening, providing a toast when the cake arrived. The party wrapped up around 4 a.m., according to US Weekly. “We were here for the first lady’s birthday, and that was the highlight, and the president gave a wonderful, wonderful speech about her, and then Beyoncé performed and wow,” Smokey Robinson told ABC on his way out of the party.
