Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. - TopicsExpress

Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. Lamentations 3:41. Prayer. Prayer rightfully acknowledges who we are in light of who God is: we, the creation... He, the Creator. The act of prayer teaches us our unworthiness while at the same time acknowledges His worthiness. CH Spurgeon said, ... a true prayer is an inventory of wants, a catalogue of necessities, a revelation of hidden poverty... an application to divine wealth, and a confession of human emptiness. On one hand prayer adores God, while at the same time leaves the creature in his rightful place, in the dust. Yet, when I see Gods people reaching upward in worship it is a beautiful sight to behold, a reminder of the creatures need of divine help. Our hands may seem empty to a casual observer, but look again, my friend, for those hands hold lifted hearts to heaven. And, heaven answers with a constant benediction of blessing to true worshippers. As with anything worth doing, we primarily get out of worship what we are willing to invest in worship. We may come with empty hands, but we go with full hearts bubbling over with the joy of the Lord which is our strength. Prayer girds human weakness with divine strength, turns human folly into heavenly wisdom, and gives to troubled mortals the peace of God. We know not what prayer cannot do! Spurgeon. O Lord, we give praise for the mercy-seat, a wonderful proof of heavens lovingkindness. Help us, God, to use it aright throughout this and every day. May we never approach Your throne in vainglory, but ever in humble adoration. Amen!
