#LetYourStoryBeHeard Our first story share is from Janet Kenny telling the sad story of her first grandchild. 15 years ago tomorrow, we lost our first grandchild. Our son and his beautiful young girlfriend accepted the fact that they were pregnant at a very young age. We all supported them with their choice. All excited for the delivery of our little grandson, we all started to prepare. They moved into their flat with a lovely big bedroom for them and their expected baby boy. Everything was ready. I received a call to say that mummy hadnt felt the baby kick for a long while. I suggested a nice warm bath, and so did the midwife. At 34 weeks you think you are home and dry!! Still no movement. The next 36 hours were sooo sad and traumatic for a girl of 16 and a boy of 19. As a mother, you feel you just want to take away that pain but you cant. When the scan tried desperately to find a heartbeat we all went still. Nothing. Nothing. I placed my hands on her tummy and willed life into my tiny grandchild. Nothing. Mummys face was white and blank. She said nothing. My son ran. He ran into oblivion. I just keep stroking and rubbing the coldness of her tummy. Its quite archaic to be sent home, but she was and decided to go back in the morning to start the process of delivery. Which took 2 days. After hours of labour, waiting in the room down the corridor, I had an impulse to be there, in those days they only let the father in. I ran down the corridor and burst into the delivery room when Callum was born complete in his sac. Poor, poor mummy. A child herself. My son just a boy. To see such pain, and witness the stillness of their son. But the beauty of him is still fresh in my mind. A perfect little boy. 4lb 3 oz. We had him dressed and they put him in a wicker crib. We couldnt even hold him. His mummy and daddy could only hold the basket. No warm cuddles and newborn smells. Just a little lad who looked quite cross! God bless him xx He has 2 brothers who are 12 and 10, but he will always be our first grandson. Too beautiful for earth xx
