Lets Go Brockville!!!! Round 3 has begun for Brockvilles Fly More Flags campaign in the Aviva Community Fund contest. People can vote once a day, now until November 24th. On Thursday November 14th John Ross Matheson, Father of our Flag will celebrate his 96th birthday. Please vote to help celebrate this huge milestone for one of the true Canadian Heroes. Please vote every day to ensure John’s work is celebrated. said Fifty years of Our Flag Committee Chair, Bob Harper. Harper says, the next phase of the committees goals is the Fly More Flags Campaign. Their goal is to have a minimum of 2,000 flags, each 3`x 6`, flying in the City of Brockville to express our City`s patriotism in its role in the creation of one of the most recognized symbols in the world. With John Ross Matheson being the “Father of the Flag” and Brockville being the “Birth Place” of the Canadian Flag, the Fifty years of Our Flag Committee find it paramount that they put a simple program in place that will allow the citizens of Brockville to show their patriotism, their spirit and to re-inspire that passion that went into the birth of the National Flag almost 50 years ago. Organizers say this project could become a National Fly More Flags Campaign leading up to the 50th Anniversary celebrations across Canada in 2015. Fifty Years ago, on February 15, 1965 the current Canadian Flag was first flown. The 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag will be celebrated on February 15, 2015. Part of that history is because John Ross Matheson, a dedicated Brockvillian was responsible for the committee that eventually choose the flag we have today. said Harper. It is an exciting story and many people do not know about it. John Ross Matheson is the Father of Our Flag and the goal of the 50 years of Our Flag Committee is to recognize this and celebrate the upcoming 50 Year milestone with a variety of initiatives in our community. Harper also said that people will soon be able to get a Canadian Flag at Home Hardware in Brockville Stewart Blvd for only 15$ with your pledge to fly the Canadian Flag, plus they are going to pursue Flag Day as a national holiday, so please vote, and keep the momentum building, show your civic and national pride!
