Lets Torque Motorsport Live an annual event! THE second ever Let’s Torque Motorsport Live motorsport sportsman’s night, held in Mildura last weekend, has now confirmed the show’s status as an annual event. This year’s show featured V8 Supercar legends Jim Richards and John Bowe, three-time World Solo Speedway champion Jason Crump and former Australian Top Fuel drag racing champion Phil Lamattina. The large and enthusiastic crowd that attended the event heard not only about the four motorsport superstars’ triumphs, but also some of their less well known facts and stories as well as some of the biggest moments in Australian motorsport. From Phil Lamattina’s radical flip at more than 500km/h and winning his first Top Fuel crown to the time seven-time Bathurst 1000 winner Jim Richards, who was brought to Mildura by Shannons Insurance, and his multiple Bathurst-winning co-driver, the great Peter Brock, travelled nonstop from one side of Australia to the other in a four-door sedan just to make a race meeting during the 1970s. John Bowe meanwhile, who was supported in Mildura by Noddy Riordans Paint and Panel, recounted what it was like to win this year’s Bathurst 12-hour in an exotic Ferrari race car as well as describing what it was like to live and race alongside fellow racing legend Dick Johnson. Jason Crump, who was backed by Mildura Motorcycles and Pro Coat Sunraysia, also had the crowd transfixed, describing what it was like to win his first World Championship, the effort it took to race a gruelling 130 meetings a year, and the moment he decided to retire. This year’s show followed the successful debut last year, which featured Jim Richards, Dick Johnson, World Sidecar Speedway champion Darrin Treloar and multiple World Series Sprintcar champion Max Dumesny. With the second show now a success, organisers Angelo Halacas, Damion Bradshaw and Ben Piscioneri say the show will now be an annual event. “We’ve already started planning next year’s show and have started negotiations with several big names for the 2015 event, which we hope and aim to make even bigger than this year’s show,” Mr Halacas said. “A big thank-you must go out to our major sponsors, without whom the show just wouldn’t be possible. They include Audisound, Jim and Toula Halacas, Shannons Insurance, Noddy Riordan’s Paint and Panel, Mildura Motorcycles and Pro Coat Sunraysia. “We also had great support from Euro Floor, Narva and Projecta, EasyMix 1467, 97.9 SunFM and 99.5 StarFM, Prints Charming Mildura, Hooligators All American Diecast and the Quality Hotel Mildura Grand.”
