Lets applaud the geniuses who spent millions of taxpayers $$$ on crumb rubber muching of our playgrounds and artificial turfed fields. Someone must being getting paid Big Bucks by Big Business. According to the EPA, benzene, mercury, styrene-butadiene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and arsenic, among several other chemicals, heavy metals and carcinogens, have been found in tires. Studies have found that crumb rubber can emit gases that can be inhaled. When the material gets hot, it can increase the chances that volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, and chemicals can off-gas, or leach into the air. Not only are some of our playgrounds and toxic turf fields now Carcinogenic, the toxic turf needs costly annual maintenance and replacement every 10 years. Back in July of 2011 I posted on the unofficialwebsiteofclosternj This reminds me of the NVRHS scam. They spent $1.4 MILLION on Toxic Turf for both schools and when the manufacturer admitted that their product was defective, they sold new stuff to the HS for another $700,000. $2.1 million for toxic turf. And the PTO was ready to spend $250,000 for Toxic Turf @ TMS. Beam up some $$$$ for the kids, not special interests.
