Lets be honest who really cares about the history of BASI! But - TopicsExpress

Lets be honest who really cares about the history of BASI! But this Comment by Peter Baker from another thread is perhaps worth its own thread. Apparently BASI commissioned ex BBC James Cove to write a history of BASI. This he did, finishing it some years ago. For some reason it has not been printed! Peter Baker Says ... Long story Julian James cove wrote it between 2010 and 2012 ready for the 50 th anniversary I helped research for it between 2000 when I stopped being a trainer , and 2010. So you can imagine how much info we had , James interviewed about 20 of the earliest members , I was exited we were going to have an exiting book, as of last Feb it had , had 3 re writes, and I gather it is now having its 4 th re write while it is decided if to publish it in paper or an e book . I do not know who made the decision to re write it , I brought it up at Morzine EGM and was told it was having re writes to be more a factual book , and less a recollection book, as having so many older members views of the history left the book open to having liablist content, an area basi did not want to get into . I enjoyed Friths book on basi the SkiTeacher, apparently you would not publish that book. Today as it slags off to many people . for me I wish it was published as James wrote it, for a number of reasons it could be said at start of book these events reported are from interviews with early founder members , the way they remember, readers can make there own minds up as to the accuracy , that would take basi out of it , I think the worry is if basi publish it, are they then liable for another persons words. This is new territory for basi all other books have been teaching or technical content. As far as I know 3 people in basi have read the original , Andy Lockerbie, dave Renouf and one other person , and of course the auther James . I really hope the 20 hrs or so of cd, interview material has been kept by. Basi and not destroyed , as it is of historical importance to our membership, even if we do not get to read it. All v sad Jules, I persuaded many old former members to get back involved with basi and be interviewed , many very sceptical and said basi would never tell there story , I feel a bit red faced now being proved wrong . At a time when basi is trying to engage with membership this mirrors your original post leaders in association have brought harm to association . I can see there worry of being sued. , or reporting not facts but other peoples views of basi history as they lived it. But they are not the first to re write history and wont be the last .
