Lets continue bickering over the inequitable distribution of scraps from the ruling class and continue to ignore the fact that the system is designed to be massively unfair to begin with. . The gender/wage gap isnt an issue. The issue is the undervaluation of women - including their labor. Women arent seen as valuable, and womens work isnt seen as valuable. This shouldnt be about unequal pay. It should be about unequal perception of value. . Why arent we talking about that? . That would be something I could get behind. . This debate on the wage gap actually seems to distract from the inequitable valuation of women. . Its the perfect decoy. Its got a feel good quality liberals can get behind while doing absolutely nothing to address how society debases women. . Whats the end game? Pass more legislation, or even raise public awareness about wage disparity? . At best it ends up resulting in people doing the right things for the wrong reasons - and thats if it were successful. And then mission accomplished everyone goes home feeling good about themselves. . Nowhere in this formulation is there an outcome that results in more tangible equity for women in this society.
