Lets examine, When God doesnt grant our prayer request 2 Corinthians 12:7 New International Version or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from ( becoming conceited ) I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me The Apostle Paul speaks of a “thorn in the flesh” He calls it “a messenger of Satan” that had a purpose of “torment.” Many explanations have been put forward, but whether Paul is referring to a physical, spiritual, or emotional affliction, or something else entirely, has never been answered with satisfaction. Since he was not talking of a literal thorn, he must have been speaking metaphorically. Some of the more popular theories of the thorn’s interpretation include temptation, a chronic eye problem, malaria, migraines, epilepsy, and a speech disability. Some even say that the thorn refers to a person, such as Alexander the coppersmith, who did Paul “a great deal of harm” ( 2 Timothy 4:14 ) No one can say for sure what Paul’s thorn in the flesh was, but it was a source of real pain in the apostle’s life. The Apostle was a man of great faith. He wanted the thorn removed. It was not in his best interest to have it removed The Apostle prayed with great faith! Because it was not Gods ( will ) the thorn was not removed! God knows what is best and will not grant a request that is not His will for us. ( Notice ) the Apostle Paul, prayer was not granted because he would have become conceited. ( thats ) having or showing too much pride in your own worth or goodness Full Definition ( 1 ) ingeniously contrived/fanciful ( 2 )having or showing an excessively high opinion of oneself. The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness is sin, and God hates it because it is a hindrance to seeking Him. ( Psalm 10:4 ) explains that the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God! The proud/conceited are so blinded by their pride/conceited that they think they have no need of God or, worse, that God should accept them as they are because they deserve His acceptance. ( Note ) God answers different prayers in different ways except that He, being all all-wise and all-knowing, is aware of what is the best for us – and sometimes that is to answer a prayer in the negative. Think of a small child who wants an ice cream just before his dinner. If his parents are wise they will say no because they know that granting this request at that time is inappropriate. God is also a wise parent and many times our prayer requests are not in our best interest, irrespective of what we may think!
