Lets pretend for a minute. I was listening to teachers who have always contended they do not make enough money, and I do agree to some extent. So I was thinking what if we could pay teachers a base salary plus incentives, commission, etc. So lets look at how much a District student gets in money for attending school. The average for New Castle County is $13, 062 per student per year. I assume each teacher instructs 125 students per day, or somewhere around that figure- at least (25 students per class 6 classes on average). Based on my assumption the teacher instructs around $1,632,750.00 each year by way of teaching students. Pay the teacher a base salary of 3% of their student base. In this case it would be $48, 982. Give incentives up to 10% so potentially a teacher that works for their students to make certain goals would potentially be able to earn $163, 275 each year. Now of course some of the variables like high poverty schools and such would have to be considered. But I would love to give each teacher the opportunity to earn that much based on their commitment, dedication and performance. Do you think that we would see better results? Do you think teachers are under paid? What say you FBF????
