Lets put it simply, we dont settle for a reduction in the NSW management level of the lakes down to 275 GL, we want it to go up to at the minimum, 620 GL, which gives you, Lake Wetherell, Lake Pamamaroo, Copi Hollow and the river from the Main Weir down to Weir 32 (risen by 2 metres). This also gives you two emergency surface water supplies which should be supplied from a new pipeline (600ml in diameter) from the Murray River, following the current Anabranch pipeline route. The existing Broken Hill- Menindee pipeline has to be upgraded regardless of current practices. If they win with the Bore Water program, they have to use this pipeline to pump the water to Stephens Creek. We need a Recreational hub in the Lakes area, which includes Copi Hollow, Sunset Strip and Menindee Lake Caravan Park all in the one area, with a permanent water supply. This must be funded by the Federal and State Governments because successive Federal and State Governments have neglected the concerns of the Darling River and MLS and failed to ensure that mismanagement of these to stop. Lets get our heads around this and make it better for us, not the irrigators. If the re-engineering works go ahead for the MLS, a larger outlet regulator will be installed at or near Little Menindee Creek, allowing the release of up to 14000 ML per day from Lake Menindee and a new regulator to be installed between Lake Menindee and Lake Cawndilla, so as soon as the water gets into Lake Menindee it will be drawn down faster much faster. We will only see water in Lake Menindee and Cawndilla if there is a major flood.
