Lets talk about C3K9S 3 Cs for canine fulfillment. If you were to ask us any question when it comes to unruly/destructive/nuisance behaviors with your dog, chances are, youre expecting different techniques/methods/tools that we would recommend to stop those unwanted behaviors. Also, thats what many other trainers would revert to, as well. You see, it is very likely that your dog doesnt have a problem at all. What we see as nuisance/unwanted behaviors is actually a symptom of something else---and well let you in on a secret--more times than not, its because the dog isnt getting enough of one or more of the following: Cognition, Cardio, or Communication. Cognition is just a fancy way of saying thinking process or mental engagement. Its the same thing that happens in our brain when we are trying to figure out where a puzzle piece goes, solve problems, or how to do something. What happens when we--especially kids--get bored? Shenanigans to say the least lol. If your dog isnt engaging his brain day after day, then hes going to get bored and think of something better to do, and chances are, his idea of fun isnt exactly yours. This is especially true for working/herding/sporting breeds. Cardio in the sense of getting adequate physical exercise to burn off excess energy and get his heart rate up. Communication means having a clear consistent line of communication (hence C3K9 lol) between BOTH dog and owner. If your dog doesnt understand or care about what you want or expect of him, then thats going to lead to frustration. Naturally dogs want to follow us and take direction from us--theyre the only animals that do. If youre having a hard time conveying a certain message to your dog, then you have a broken communication system. If the communication is broken, then the relationship needs work. (Lets face it, with the relationships are based on trust, understanding, and communication, regardless if its with our dog or our spouse/significant other or family). Its very common for one of these factors to be missing when it comes to anyone who needs dog training. Instead of focusing on how to stop x-behavior, ask yourself about whether or not your dog is getting all 3-Cs in his life. Have a great evening and stay warm!
