Lets talk about sports massage, shall we. Before starting IMAZ - TopicsExpress

Lets talk about sports massage, shall we. Before starting IMAZ training I had had exactly one professional massage.....10 years ago. It was a Mothers Day gift and it was quite nice, but massage was easily filed under the nice to have category of expenses, and I could never quite bring myself to actually spend money on them. Fast forward to 100 mile training ride days and massage suddenly seems more like a need to have. So I bought a Groupon (famous last words, I know). So today I had a post race sports massage. My first ever real sports massage. Wow. Back, quads and hamis, please, I say to the lady, thinking this will be a nice little one hour break from my day. I raced this weekend! Uh huh, she says. Breath. First the warm up...nice...good....maybe Ill just take a na-ahhhh-OW! What the hell is that?!? And so began the worst hour of my life. As her thumbs, elbows and forearms found every knot that I knew was there and hundreds more that I had no idea existed, that one word became survival: Breath. I began to dread that slight pause that meant she had found something particularly nasty and was about to attack it with all she had. I could actually hear her step back to brace herself. Honestly, I think the music needed to be louder in that place. Maybe Metallica? In my head I was saying something along the lines of holysonofamarthafaulker.... Luckily, the only thing that managed to escape my lips was a slight whimper. Triathletes are supposed to have high pain thresholds. Ive had two babies....This hurt! I could not wait to get back to my life. Breaks over! Never mind! I like the knots! Knots are great....its okay...I have a foam roller...really! The upside is that I actually do feel better. Now. And i have discovered another use for Lamaze. Maybe I will go get another one. Maybe not.
