Lets talk ascent profiles for rockets (assuming stock - TopicsExpress

Lets talk ascent profiles for rockets (assuming stock aerodynamics, although I plan on givng NEAR a go tonight): My standard practice, whenever possible, is to launch and apply enough throttle that I hit 100m/s as I hit 1km up. From that point, I try to massage throttle in such a way that I slowly accelerate until I hit 200m/s as I hit 10km up. This is to avoid wasting fuel overcoming the denses lower atmosphere, although Im probably being a bit conservative. From that point, 10km up, I will go full burn and turn eastward until Im at a 45-degree elevation. Depending on the rocket, I will either chase the prograde marker, or keep it aimed at 45-degrees until I see my Apoapsis point running away from me. Chasing the prograde marker is the better option, Ive found. I typically aim to keep my initial orbit undr 100km. I have the feeling that FAR and NEAR tosses all that out the window. So, what works with you guys?
