Lets talk dishwashers this morning. First of all, you know that I am a huge fan of FINISH Dishwasher Detergent. I have found it doesnt leave residue on dishes and inside the dishwasher like many of the other popular brands. Over the last couple of months I have been trying something new, OxiClean Dishwasher Detergent. I am really impressed with it. It removes the toughest dirt and is not leaving residue on dishes or the dishwasher. If you are planning to try it, look for it at big box stores like Walmart where it is considerably less expensive than the grocery store. Now lets talk about what NOT to put in the dishwasher. Wood: This should never go in the dishwasher. hand-wash anything with wood on it. That means handles on pans, salad bowls, utensils, etc. The heat from the dry cycle can crack wood and be a great place for bacteria to hide and it also will turn the wood a white color. Insulated Travel Mugs: The heat of the dishwasher can ruin the seal between the inner and outer part of the mug and ruin the mugs ability to insulate. Cast Iron: Cast Iron will rust when cleaned in the dishwasher and also that wonderful protective, non-stick layer of oil that you work so hard to achieve, will be removed causing food to stick. China and Delicate Glassware: Dishwasher heat can cause shattering and dishwasher detergent can damage the dishes and cause cracking. Fine dishes with gold trim: The water jets will work like sandblasting, blasting away the gold flakes and soon, no more gold trim. Plastic: Plastic storage containers are top rack only. Bottom rack may cause them to melt or become misshapen. Silverware and stainless steel cutlery: Never wash real silver and stainless steel together. It will cause pitting. Best to wash any cutlery with gold trim by hand. Washing in the dishwasher can discolor it and wear it off over time. For more great tips, LIKE this page and dont forget to share with your friends.
