Letter from Dr. Turney - Dear colleagues, Ive heard - TopicsExpress

Letter from Dr. Turney - Dear colleagues, Ive heard from many of you over the past three years regarding some of the changes and transitions youve faced as modern professionals in practice management. Some of you have managed your practices through acquisitions and mergers, implemented new governance structures and technology overhauls. You have built new facilities, added new providers and rewritten your strategic plans. Now, its my turn to share news of some personal and professional changes with you. Recently I shared with the Board of Directors and MGMA staff that I have accepted a new position as Chief Executive Officer of the newly-formed Marshfield Clinic Health System in Marshfield, Wis. I will step down as MGMA President and CEO effective Sept. 1 of this year. This was not a decision that I took lightly. There is tremendous momentum within the organization for some of the initiatives Ive championed and I had hoped to see more of our hard work come to fruition as CEO, but this is a great opportunity for me and timing is everything. Rest assured that my departure will in no way impact the strategic focus of the Association. Simply put, we have the right team in place doing the right things, and the future is bright for MGMA. MGMA will begin recruiting for my replacement today. In the interim, MGMA Leadership will assume increased responsibility until the new CEO is selected. I can assure you the new leader will be stepping into an organization that is poised for success and that the current leadership structure between the Board of Directors and Leadership Team will not skip a beat and will continue to forge ahead with planned initiatives. Its been a whirlwind three years. I arrived at an MGMA that resembled many of your practices; needing to think big, reinvent the way it operates and focus on the needs of the end-user. In your case, thats the patients and in our case, thats you. Im proud to say todays MGMA is a professional development organization at its core. We exist to advance leaders like you and provide resources that make a difference every day, like our timely legislative analyses and award-winning publications. Weve strengthened and aligned our relationships with our state affiliates. Weve strategically partnered with industry vendors and other organizations to provide new types of content and insights that will help your practice thrive. And weve expanded our data solutions efforts while working to make our data easier to interact with and relevant to your business needs. Weve revitalized our 88-year-old Annual Conference and have a very enriching and engaging experience lined up for you in October. If I may leave a parting impression with you, please let it be that there is immense power in engaging with your association. I will continue to rely on MGMA resources and its members so I can run an effective business and take the best care of our patients. Twenty-eight years ago I joined MGMA and became engaged with the Government Relations committee. Through my commitment to lifelong learning, the things I learned as a member volunteer and the tremendous network I built, I eventually acquired the skills I needed to become CEO of this organization. MGMA has been an essential component to my success and it also can be to yours. Please, Raise your Hand and be a mentor, advise our staff, write an article or a blog, pursue Board certification through ACMPE, or go to the Member Community or one of our many meetings and ask a question, meet someone new, challenge yourself. We can only make a difference if we engage in our profession and I look forward to seeing you during the next phase of my journey. Thank you for the opportunity to have served as your President and CEO, advocate, partner and leader the past three years. Best wishes to each one of you. Yours truly, Susan Turney, MD, MS, FACP, FACMPE
