Letter from Pierre in France: Sprezzatura is my very first playlist on 8tracks. I’ve created several playlists that are dear to me since May, but this one is very special. There are a hundred reasons why I’ve created this playlist. I’ll explain a few ones, I hope it’ll catch your interest. The first reason is that I’m a huge jazz fan. And I’m not 70, or even 40. I’m turning 19 in a month. When I talk about it, lots of people look at me in an odd fashion. I don’t see jazz as an outdated genre. I think it’s great and still relevant today. Therefore, I decided to create an introductory playlist to great jazz. I’ve selected exclusively fast-tempo tracks, thinking they would appeal the most to ears that aren’t used to jazz music. The second reason is that I love Cowboy Bebop, a well-known anime with a kickass jazz soundtrack. The cover portrays the show’s main character, Spike Spiegel. A badass dude who knows kung-fu and listens to great jazz. Sprezzatura is a tribute to the kind of guy that inspires me, although Spike is a fictional character. I think that my playlist is what’s playing in his earphones when he’s fighting bad guys. The title comes from the Italian language. It depicts a kind of studied carelessness, which is a very defining trait to Spike’s character and to some key-principles of jazz. Last but not least, this playlist reminds me of my best friend, who lives quite far away, and of his own appreciation for jazz and Cowboy Bebop. Love from France, Pierre
