Letter from a concerned former SPCA volunteer: The word - TopicsExpress

Letter from a concerned former SPCA volunteer: The word responsibility consists of two words response and ability. It is the ability that we have to respond in any way we choose to any given situation. You can respond with anger, or you can respond with acceptance and peace. Many times, I have seen in myself and in others a tendency to avoid taking responsibility for our own stuff by placing the blame on someone else. Yet, in all situations, we, as the powerful beings that we really are, always have the choice of how we respond. It is always up to us, whether we choose to be sad or joyful, angry or understanding, fearful or trusting. Unfortunately the new SPCA BOD feels differently about responsibility. They have choose to play the blame game. They choose to blame the community, the public “at large” if you will for failure to come out in droves and volunteer. To network animals for homes, to support their mission, which according to their website is the following statement: The SPCA of Bradley County, a 501(c)3, will seek to provide humane sheltering for companion animals, while providing compassionate animal control services, under the No Kill Equation model. Did anyone catch that? 1. Humane sheltering… Since when is outside covered with tarps considered humane? 2. While providing compassionate animal control services---what the what???? Since WHEN does SPCA provide animal control? 3. No Kill Equation model We volunteers have preached from the pulpit over and over that the creators of SPCA have never, not ONCE followed the No Kill Equation. Their mission statement is bogus. And as of Jan 1, the SPCA BOD will need to grossly revise their mission statement to come into the alignment of the most recent vote this past Monday- to begin reducing numbers by any means necessary – Chris Turner. What this means is, SPCA will some how need to find a way to not only pay for a new director, but also pay a licensed euthanasia tech. Will this be one in the same? They sure hope so. In light of the recent news report from Channel 9- Daniel Rawls was reportedly distraught over the situation regarding how the community, the public “at large” has failed them, has failed the SPCA. No Mr. Rawls, the SPCA has failed the animals. They failed them the moment Betti Gravelle and Beth Foster signed the contract. But neither seem to be around any more, Beth abandoned ship once she realized she no longer had free access to supply her own private rescue and Betti has slithered away being too cowardly to stand up for the “Life not Landfill” she worked 20+ years to build. They are no longer running the dog and pony show…oh wait that would reference a circus and we definitely don’t want to do that since they protests circuses instead of supporting their own SPCA. Daniel Rawls, this is not a community failure. You cannot create a business model based on phantom fundraising and over-worked, bullied volunteers. Your community did not fail this. Your community came out in droves from March to July and worked hours upon hours (even until 2am some mornings) ensuring the animals were taken care of. But when the very leaders who created the organization fight for control and want it their way only and decide to begin harassing other volunteers, the good ones will not stick around. They will fall to the wayside because the stress and hostile volunteer environment creates a ripple effect through their entire lives, family, finances, work, and health all became effected in one way or another. Obviously I speak from personal experience. Daniel Rawls, your tears are crocodile tears, dry them up and man up. Quit passing the buck. Take responsibility for the mess Betti and Beth passed down to you and your new board. Step up, admit mistakes, admit failure, beg on your knees to the city to rejoin. Because if not, the SPCA BOD will have the blood of 100+ animals on their hands come January 1. - Concerned former SPCA volunteer newschannel9/news/top-stories/stories/bradley-county-spca-drops-no-kill-policy-13880.shtml
